🩸: What Is Type 1 Diabetes?
What is Type 1 Diabetes?
Type 1 Diabetes is an auto-immune disorder (usually occurring in childhood and early adult) where the body mistakenly attacks the insulin cells coming from our pancreas. Different from Type 2 Diabetes, which is usually brought on by poor lifestyle, diet, or family history, Type 1 Diabetes occurs at random (some speculate it’s post a virus or family history) and there’s nothing we can do to prevent a diagnosis.
Insulin provides the glue that holds our blood sugar together: Keeping it at a cool 80-120 range. Without insulin, the sugar in our blood will run high from the things we eat or daily life and hormones.
Interesting fact: You don’t need insulin to just eat, you need it like an IV drip in your system continuously! It’s a hormone that is responsible for so much more than the food we put into our body.
